Using DS4 in Windows (DC Universe Online)

As much as I would like to use a keyboard and mouse when playing PC games, there is this game that i would rather use a control pad. And that game is DC Universe Online! I actually played the game up to level 5 using a keyboard and a mouse but there is something in this game that makes me feel like I want to use a controller. It's like the game is made to played using a control pad. And since this game is created by Sony, I think it would be wise to use a Sony controller, specifically a Dual Shock 4 (DS4).

So I grabbed my son's DS4 and connected it via usb to my computer, I was surprised that Windows 7 detected it and installed the drivers automatically. Fired up DCUO and opened up the controller settings in the patch screen... great! no controllers detected... hmmmm. Since i'm already excited I googled up "DS4 for PC" and found this very useful software called inputmapper at http://inputmapper.com. This software actually tricks your computer that an xbox controller is connected, since most games have native xbox controller support, any game that supports a controller should work.

Then I installed it and within a few seconds it detected my DS4 with no configurations needed. Opened up DCUO again and viola! my DS4 is now detected! I was already happy leveling up my character but something inside me is urging me to use it wirelessly... yes i want it to be wireless and not use the usb cable. Good thing I have this bluetooth usb adapter from Hytac which I bought for less than 300.00 pesos. (CDR KING has a bluetooth usb adapter for only 90 pesos but I really doubt it's quality).

Next I plugged in the Bluetooth adapter and synced the controller by pressing the PS button and share button at the same time (when it starts to flash, click the add device option on your Bluetooth icon). It should say "wireless controller" as the device name. Once synced, everything should work flawlessly, one thing that I noticed though is that I forgot to even launch inputmapper this time but still the controller is working wirelessly in DCUO, seems like DCUO have native support for DS4, well that's good news! hehe. The only thing that's annoying me when I don't open inputmapper is that I will not know how much charge is left on the battery, so I still open it once in a while just to know if its charging or what.

As for inputmapper, it is an ad-supported program, but this is the best controller mapping software that i've tried so far (the DS4 touch-pad is also working)  since most games still don't have native support for DS4, and for only $2 you can get rid of all the ads. Plus you can also change the lights on your controller, calibrate and create macros to suit your playing style. For less than a hundred pesos, it's definitely worth it. Try it out and tell me what you think :)

There must be a few more games out there that supports DS4 natively, if you know any please post it in the comments below.
