I personally use vpn's not just because i want to hide my ip and identity when browsing, but to circumvent ISPs who geo block websites and those who throttle speed or in some cases threaten you with a lawsuit when torrenting.
A lot of free and paid servers are sprouting like mushrooms right now, some go as low as $3 a month for premium service which is very useful when torrenting but if you look deeper in the VPN scene you will see that you don't have to spend a penny to get a decent VPN.
So here you go, my short list of free VPNs, feel free to comment below if you want to share your own lists. I will be updating this list as we move towards 2020...
Feel free to run your own VPN Gate server and contribute to the community, no registration required.

The best free VPNs of 2019
1. Proton VPN
From the same team that developed Protonmail, claimed as the world's largest most secure email service, developed by CERN and MIT.
As you can see below, the speed of my internet is almost the same with or without VPN. At times using this VPNs is surprisingly faster especially if the Netherlands server is not full since I'm in Dublin and closer to the Netherlands. I only use US servers if Netherlands is full, unfortunately during the posting of this blog.
Also, mobile internet is slow in my room as I only get H+ signal here. 😢
